Comic Con 2010 Post 1.1

What a day!! Lots of line waiting. We got to checkin and pick up badges alittle after 12 and then it was straight to the Preview Night line for a 6 pm entry. Luckily there was plenty to keep me busy (reading the schedule and souvenir books). Also got to meet up with some old friends shortly before getting into the exhibit hall. Collected a giant bag of SWAG and a few autographs as well as toured the Gaslamp District for more Comic con excitement!

SWAG (Something We All Get) is always the highlight of the event. Film studios, toy companies and especially comic book companies are out passing out free promotional items for all to get. Crowds swarm the big booths every year, Warner Bros., DC comics, Marvel, Mattel, and Hasbro are just a few of the biggies. This year Warner Bros. teamed with the Convention to pass out there highly sought after giant tote bags at registration. A bummer for those of us that normally try to collect one of each version of the bags plus several duplicates for our friends, family, and fans. I was able to get 2 bags, yes I cheated the system but I really wanted a Big Bang Theory bag! My other SWAG finds included DC Superhero buttons, Green Lantern rings, posters for Thor and Captain America, Iron Man/S.H.I.E.L.D. Bags, a dozen or so random comic books, a Big Bang Theory sharpie, a few lanyards for various shows and video games, an Expendables bandana, and other random little trinkets.

Another feature for Preview Night is early access to Comic Con Exclusive merchandise. This includes special action figures, comic books, shirts, etc. that are only available at Comic Con. My target was a special True Blood comic book. I was able to grab one and even get it autographed!! My friends grabbed limited edition items too, one even got the number 1 of a series of hand numbered figures, way to go Guy!

After filling my bag "to the gills" my friends and I headed out to the Gaslamp District. First so I could check into my room (Thanks Linda!) and then to hunt out some offsite Comic Con fun. We visited the Cafe Diem, aka the SyFy channel HQ, based on the restaurant from the TV show Eureka. This is where SyFy will be handing it's freebies out from. Also, we tracked down Flynn's Arcade from the new movie Tron: Legacy. Looks closed up, but the sign was mysteriously on - more on that in the ensuing days.

Other highlights from today: got to see alot of the new action figures coming out from Hasbro and Mattel in the coming year - SWEET!! Also, Paul Levitz (important guy from DC Comics) signed a first issue of the Legion of Superheroes for me. He is such a cool down to Earth guy, we talked about the new Legion series and where the comic is headed in the future - SO AWESOME!!

Pictures ARE coming, just having a few difficulties getting them to load. Check back soon for more updates.
