DC Comics - Brightest Day #7 - 8/11/2010

Brightest Day #7 starts off right where BD#6 left off. Deadman (A.K.A. Boston Brand), Hawk and Dove are in a diner eating cheeseburgers after the white ring told them to "eat a cheeseburger". As they are eating, they are pondering the purpose of the white ring and why it would tell them to go "eat a cheeseburger" of all things.

THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
Once they are finished, the ring says that they are ready and teleports them to the white lantern, which is sitting in a crater in Silver City, New Mexico. Until this point in the story, nobody has been able to lift the lantern out of the ground. Not even the combined strength of Hal Jordan, Sinestro, and Carol Ferris as the Star Sapphire. Hawk tries to lift it to no avail. Deadman places one hand on the handle of the lantern and is able to lift it with ease. As soon as he lifts the lantern, it begins to glow and speak to him and a White Lantern suit covers his body. At the same time this is happening, the lantern seems to speak to all of the people that were resurrected by the white light. Just as Deadman, they all each glow in the white light in a white suit. Each one of them puzzled as to what is happening. The lantern then begins to speak and give them each a task that they each must undertake.

SPOILER ALERT!!! Do not read below if you don't wish to know!

-Martian Manhunter must "BURN IT" Which the lanter seems to be talking about Star City Forest.

-Firestorm must figure out a way to rid the Black Lantern corruption in the Firestorm matrix.

-Hawkman must "STOP THE QUEEN" from escaping Hawkworld and entering Earth.

-Hawkgirl must save Hawkman from dying at the hands of Hath-Set. For which if he dies, there will be no more resurrections for them.

-Aquaman must find Aqualad before "they" find him first.

-Captain Boomerang must "THROW A BOOMERANG" at Dove.

-Jade must learn to "BALANCE THE DARKNESS"

-Osiris must "FREE ISIS" his sister, the goddess of nature.

-Max Lord must find Magog and defeat him before he plunges the world into war.

-Hawk must "CATCH THE BOOMERANG" that is thrown at Dove.

-Reverse Flash must "ALLOW THE FLASH TO ESCAPE THE SPEED FORCE"

-Deadman must find a new sentient replacement for the guardian of the White Lantern for it is dying. This could be due to the exposure to the Black Lanterns.

Each of the resurrected received their task to complete, which of all of them only Reverse Flash had accomplished their "mission" It seems that once they complete their mission, they are permanently returned to life.

Since the end of Blackest Night and the beginning of Brightest Day, we have been wondering why those 12 individuals specifically were brought to life. This issue seems to answer that question, but now it opens up a whole new batch of questions. Who will succeed in their mission? Who will fail? Who will become the new White Lantern entity? How do all these events lead up to the selection of a new entity? We'll just have to stay tuned to the next upcoming issues of Brightest Day to which I am sure will answer many of the questions, but will no doubt raise some new ones.
