Dynamite - The Last Phantom #1

Dynamite brings the story of the Phantom back to the comic book world with this telling of another Kit Walker.
This time Walker isn’t using his family’s ghostly persona to save his hometown, he is using philanthropy. To protect Bengali, Kit Walker’s foundation raises money all over the world to help the save Bengali from famine and political corruption. It seems not everyone is in favor of Kit’s plans and someone decides to blow up his plane. That same someone, orchestrates a mass murder using hired guns with high tech suits that make them invisible. The mass murder includes the Phantom’s family. For years, Kit Walker has not needed to (nor wanted to) use his other identity in years. Now there are forces out to destroy all he loves and the “Ghost Who Walks” must return. Presumed dead after the plane crash, Kit Walker opens the case that is always at his side to don the symbol that puts fear in the minds of the evil, The Phantom will track down the men responsible for the massacre in Bengali.

The story drew me back into the Phantom world again, salivating for the next issue. The story appears like many other comic books, originating a story in a normal light but by the last frame, I can see this story will have some dark tones. The classic look of the Phantom is maintained while still not being the original suit that the fans remember - a blood soaked Kit Walker appears in a loin cloth and wearing his trademark Phantom holster and sidearm (the blood makes it appear like he is wearing the old purple suit). Get ready for a new chapter in the Phantom story. Issue #2 will be released in September 2010.
