Long Beach Comic Expo was a day at the beach!

On a sunny Saturday, on the coast of California fanboys and fangirls descending on a convention center in droves for a comic show. The crowds and excitement sounds similar to a little show in San Diego, but it was actually the 3rd annual Long Beach Comic Expo and just as fun. The one-day show was just like it’s bigger cousins with a full Artists Alley, crowded Exhibit Hall, and Panels all day. Like the Avengers kicked off the Summer Movie Season, the LBCE kicked off the Summer Con Season.

Mad Event Management puts on two comic events a year; an expo in the Spring and a two-day comic and horror convention in the Fall. For a one day expo the group put on a show with the “oomph” of a bigger convention. And the spirit of comic books, instead of mashup of “all things pop culture,” was felt in every room. Aspen Comics brought their talent and held a panel. Alison Haislip and Alex Albrecht from 4 Points on the Nerdist Channel along with the guys from Tournament of Nerds were in the house to give fans a preview of what’s in store on their YouTube network.

The 501st Legion hosted two activities for charity; laser tag against the Storm Troopers and NERF target practice with the TIE Fighter Pilots. StarCarCentral.com paraded some of the most famous Hollywood car-lebrities and showed off a cartoon vehicle brought to reality. There were artists from the many different publishers and celebrities alike. And the cosplayers were out in force too (See the Fanboy HQ photo albums for more photos).

The show was a success and all attendees can only count the days until Long Beach Comic Con in November. If you missed out, do not miss out on the next event. Check out Fanboy Headquarters’ Long Beach photos and check back often for coverage of this summer’s greatest comic cons.
