Comic Con Post 2.0

Today was officially Day 1 of Comic Con. From what previous years have taught me, it only gets bigger on Friday and Saturday, although I have no idea how it could get any bigger or better, but it always does. Today should be classified as Hall H day. I spent almost the entire day in Hall H viewing coming film attractions. I also took a few strolls around the exhibit floor. And wait til you all get a load of the SWAG from today!

First off, Hall H. I was in line a little after 6am and there were easily already 500 people ahead of me - tady was a popular set of sessions. We finally got in shortly before the 10am session started. Megamind, an animated film starring Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill was first up. We were handed a giant Megamind tote bag, a Megamind comic book and a Megamind watch upon entering the hall and also a pair of Real3D glasses. The movie footage was good, but the best part was Will Ferrell coming out dressed as his animated character (He thought the whole cast was gonna dress up). Brad Pitt wasn't able to make it contrary to rumors, but he did have a stand-in, literally (they had a cardboard cut out of him).

One of the most talked about movies of the convention, and a Comic Con alumni from the past 2 years, the new Tron sequel, Tron: Legacy was talked about second. Now I was there in 2008 when they vetted some test footage for us at Comic Con. We went nuts! The thought of a sequel was AWESOME! Then last year, the Tron folks came to the Con with a little footage and some costumes and props from the movie - even AWESOMER! This year...we got to view 8 minutes of the movie and hear from the cast and crew. Then we were introduced to our surprise for attending the Comic Con panel - we were going to be part of the new movie!!! They had the entire audience record a series of lines for a large stadium scene that will be dubbed into the movie - AWESOMEST! They said since we were the ones that really gave the film its start at the 2008, they wanted to pay us back. I cannot wait to see the final cut in December. This is going to be one of the biggest movies of the year, easily, right up there with Avatar (supposedly Tron was shot with better 3D cameras than Avatar). Once the film comes out I'll write more about "our part" and be sure to watch the end credits for our recognition - Hahaha.

After Tron, Disney had a couple more announcements/surprises for the audience. The first was a special message for Captain Jack Sparrow clarifying rumors that he "wasn't" recruiting a new crew, nor "looking" for the fountain of youth because (and i'm paraphrasing his quote) he'd need a "bloody map and a bloody mary, especially a bloody mary. In fact bloody mary's for all of you too, and it's on the mouse." Then they showed a shot of the title: the Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides and the release day for next year, May 20, 2011. Next, we were told that Disney is working on a new take for a Haunted Mansion movie (to replace the Eddie Murphy version) that would be similar to how they redid Alice in Wonderland. And as a treat they had the director of the movie on hand to give us some details...drumroll...Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labrynth, Hellboy). He plans to take a more scary and fun approach to the title and confirmed he is "not returning Eddie Murphy's calls." This will not be a comedic film like the last version but will still be enjoyable and bring back the original "scare" that is the Haunted Mansion. We also, were told those of us that received a special card before entering the hall this morning with the numbers 999 on it were the lucky winners of a limited edition Haunted Mansion poster! (only 999 were made).

By now you're probably telling yourself that the day couldn't get any better! But I haven't even started talking about Bruce Willis' new movie RED, or Angelina Jolie's panel for Salt or the machoness of the Expandables panel that included Sylvester Stallone, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, and many more of the stars of that film. And don't even get me started on the SWAG from today - WOW! As it's late and I'm sure many readers are already asleep, I should head to bed too (I've got to be in line between 4 and 5am tomorrow). But do not worry dear friends, this post will continue in Comic Con Post 2.1 while I am in line first thing tomorrow.
