Alright, got a little nap in and was back in line at 5:15 for Ballroom 20 for a long day of great sessions but you'll have to wait for Post 3.0 for deets. So where did I leave off late last night/early this morning...thats right, Hall H Extravaganza!
After Disney's panel it was time for Battle Los Angeles and Salt. First, Battle LA is a post-world-invasion movie starring Aaron Eckert and Michelle Rodriguez that is about a militant group trying to take Los Angeles back from invaders. It looks good, not the top of my list, but I'll see it. Salt is a story about a spy that is accused, arrested (a few times actually) for espionage, and escapes (a few times) from the CIA. It stars Angelina Jolie and Leiv Schrieber. As Ms. Jolie put it, this is a realistic action movie compared to the CGI/Green-screen created action in other movies. It looks pretty good, the more interesting part was Angelina Jolie being present. She was very down to Earth and articulated how much she loved this role. She promised the story (which she didn't want to give away) of this woman would be worth seeing. Leiv Schrieber had some good witty banter and hilarious moments.
Next up was RED about a group of Retired, Extremely Dangerous CIA agents and stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malcovich, and Karl Urban. The major theme that Bruce Willis (considered by the rest of the cast as the Leader of the gang) wanted to get across was that it was like playing at recess with all your friends when they were making this movie. Lots of joking on set and pranks (rumored that an alligator was put in someone's trailer?!?) and the footage was great! Lots of explosives, jokes, and a story that sucks the watchers in. Richard Dreyfus also makes a small appearance in the film. Should be cool and we were handed a ticket at the end of the panel for a free RED Tshirt! A panel that gives a shirt out gets my support - hahaha.
After RED was a panel donned "Nerdvana" with Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams. Having the 2 geniuses answering question about their past, present and future was quite the site for most fanboys. Between these 2, their resumes include TV Shows: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel series', LOST, Alias, and Firefly; Movies: Star Trek, Cloverfield, and Serenity just to name a few. Great guys and they made it a lot of fun. The biggest news of the panel was Joss Whedon officially confirmed that he will be helming the Marvel movie Avengers bringing Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth's Thor (out in 2011), Chris Evans's Captain America (out in 2012) and a yet to be cast Incredible Hulk together for what should be a huge blockbuster in Summer 2012. There will be a lot more announcements at the 2011 Comic Con.
The final panel I attended in Hall H was for the Expendables. If you haven't heard about this movie, you must be living in a cave! Sylvester Stallone is the writer, director, and lead actor. He set out to create the ultimate macho action flick reminiscent of the Rambo/Die Hard/Terminator days without 3D, green screens, or stuntmen. The cast also includes Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Steve "Stone Cold" Austin, Randy Couture, and not present at the panel: Jason Statham and Jet Li. Also in the movie is a special cameo scene featuring Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenagger! Bruce Willis made a surprise appearance to thank Sly for assembling the cast and putting out an awesome picture. We got to see the preview of the movie which looks very manly! This will be the ultimate macho movie of the year. Unfortunately I had to leave early due to an offsite event (see 2.2) so I missed seeing Stallone getting a World Record Recognition for his movie Rocky as the biggest selling sport movie.
So that was the Hall H experiences of Day 1, Saturday will be even bigger movies. To quote my favorite movie ending from Back to the Future, "to be continued" in Comic Con Post 2.2.
