DC Comics - Superman: The Last Family of Krypton 1 of 3

In this Elsewords story from DC Comics, Superman is not the only member of his family sent to Earth when Krypton explodes, his parents escape the planet's fate too. Jor and Lara El arrive on Earth, prepared for the skepticism of earthlings and announce their meassage, "We come in peace." They instantly begin using their powers for good and become Earth's mightiest heroes.
Eventually they build El Tower in Metropolis and Jor-El starts Jorcorp to combine his kryptonian knowledge with the greatest minds on Earth to better mankind's world. While Jor- El is busy at work, Lara-El is also working to keep humanity safe, share the religous culture of her home world and raise Kal-El (Superman's kryptonian name). Kal-El is a celebrity child and with that means little to no privacy for growing up a normal kid. Lara-El decides to have adoptive parents raise Kal-El out of the public eye. Jor-El, while not happy with the idea is too busy with Jorcorp to put up much of a fight. Lara-El settles on the Kents of Smallville to raise her son. Lara and Jor El keep close touch with the Kents and their son during his upbringing. Kal-El wishes he knew why his parents do not have him living with them and the Kents do great to help him understand he is learning to be a normal kid on the planet Earth. As the years pass, Jor-El remains busy as his company (including recruiting child prodigy and one of Kal-El's classmates, Lex Luthor), Lara-El becomes pregnant (with a twist I didn't see coming) and Kal-El (now known as Clark Kent to his school friends) continues growing up, hiding his abilities.

The story is well laid out and there is alot of links to the origin story of Superman coming to Earth and being raised in Smallville - recognizable names pop up all over the place. One of the interesting parts of the comic I noticed was Lara-El. They gave Superman's mom alot of sexy outfits and even a shower frame that will make any nerd's blood rise alittle. Also, the ship that brought the family to Earth containing Kryptonian technology was moved to the location of the future El Tower and used the Earth's minerals to turn itself into the largest building in Metropolis (near the Daily Planet) complete with a spinning El family crest (the Superman Symbol) on top.

The 3 part series continues monthly through October. What will next month reveal about the El's on Earth? Jorcorp is worldwide business and now includes Lex Luthor? Will Jor-El's mentoring change Lex's destiny as we know it? How will Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman feel about his father working so closely with one of Clark's former classmates? Will kryptonite show up in the near future? Check back next month as we continue reviews of this series.
