DC Comics - Red Hood: The Lost Days #1
DC Comics brings us this mini-series detailing the days from Jason Todd’s resurrection after his death at the hands of the Joker, up to the point he faces off against Batman as the Red Hood. How did he come back? Why is he after Batman? What will he need to take on his former mentor? Questions will be answered in this telling of Jason Todd’s return to life.
After his death, Ra’s Al Ghul’s daughter Talia learns that the second sidekick to the Bat is still alive. He was found wandering the streets looking like he had been recently buried. Doctors believe that the young man has experienced some sort of brain damage. Talia finds the boy believed to be Jason Todd and brings him to a facility for testing and to possibly help him regain his life. DNA tests confirm his identity; Jason is alive, but still not “all there” in his head. How he came back is still a mystery and Talia wants to find out the truth and get the boy back to Gotham City. After months of tests, Jason does not respond to anyone’s inquiries, however when anyone attempts physical contact, he starts to kick ass like some sort of “muscle memory reflex.” The doctors are ready to give up, stating that Jason is a vegetable, but Talia doesn’t buy it. When she touches the boy’s shoulder or hugs him, he never tries to attack her. He knows she is not a threat, she is a friend. Even her father is ready to give up on the boy’s recovery and he orders her to have him sent away, to be cared for but no one can ever know he’s alive. Talia is not ready to abandon the boy, she decides to make a drastic move. Talia takes Jason Todd to the Lazarus Pits that have made her father immortal for centuries. After dunking him in the pits, she sends him on the run with the hopes that he will be able to recover fully away from the grips of her father’s negative outlook.
Many know how the Red Hood took on Batman as a great foe. How did he get to be an enemy of Batman? The first issue only explores the resurrection of Jason Todd and starts him out on his path to wearing the Red Hood.
