Saturday was all about Hall H again and man was it day of announcements, firsts and excitement! I'm going to break the posts down by studio for this series. There is just too much to talk about for it to be one post.
After meeting up with Jose (who'd been in line since 2:30 - way to go man!) around 4:30am so we could be guaranteed a spot among the Harry Potter fans that had been camping out all night. Warner Bros. was the opener for the morning with Green Lantern, Harry Potter, and Sucker Punch.
I've been waiting for Green Lantern to become a live action film since I was a kid. Ryan Reynolds has finally been chosen to embody the "Emerald Knight,"Hal Jordan. Also Blake Lively as Carol Ferris (love interest), Mark Strong as Sinestro (mentor), and Peter Sarsgaard as Dr. Hector Hammond (villain) showed up for the panel. Green Lantern is still being filmed, but the production was able to bring some footage. The scene that stood out the most to me was the first shots of Hal Jordan swinging his Green Lantern fists. [For those of you that don't know, Green Lantern draws his power from a Green Lantern Ring that gives its wearer the ability to use their will to their advantage, creating any tool necessary for the hero's use. Imagine someone shooting at you and you imagine you had a giant shield to deflect the bullets - and voila, a giant green shield explodes from the ring to protect the wearer. The condition is that the wearer of the ring must prove themselves worthy and recite the lantern's oath]. There were 2 highlights of the panel. The first was the little kid that got Ryan Reynolds to recite the Lantern's oath publicly for the first time! (the cute kid got a bunch of "awes" and Ryan Reynolds signed a copy of a Green Lantern costume for him). The second excitement of the panel came when Ryan Reynolds announced that one lucky fan in the audience would receive his official Green Lantern ring that he'd been wearing during filming. Alas, it was not me, but what an awesome piece of SWAG for another fan!
After Green Lantern, it was Harry Potter time and the fans went crazy. Rumors had been on and off that Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, would be appearing. Sadly, he did not make it, the consolation prize was Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy in the movies series. He came out to talk to the audience about the sadness of concluding filming on the final movie series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The final book in the series will be split into 2 films opening this November and July 2011. The footage was the good, everyone should have a chance to see it in the preview that is playing in theaters and online now. I personally didn't think the footage was worth the hype of spending the night for the panel, it wasn't Twilight after all - hahaha.
Rounding out the Warner Bros. panel was Sucker Punch from the director of 300 and Watchmen, Zack Snyder. Sucker Punch has great cinematography, story, and vision. Done in the same style of filming that 300 was shot with, Sucker Punch was shot like 300 giving it a very comic book looking style. The key characters of the movie are all women and surrounds one girl, Babydoll's journey to a crazy house (sent there by her abusive stepfather) and the war she wages in her head to escape the asylum. I'm intrigued simply because Zack Snyder is attached, the footage of scantily clad women fighting an army of evil men and giant beasts with big guns and bigger smiles on their faces helps build the interest too.
On our way into the session, Warner Bros. passed out a bag of goodies for everyone. The SWAG included a limited Comic Con edition Green Lantern comic book, Harry Potter, UNDESIRABLE #1 Tshirt, and a Sucker Punch bracelet. It was a great way to start the day.
