Comic Con Post 4.2

The next panel for Saturday is for Let Me In from Overture Films and Hammer Films. Let Me In is actually a remake from a movie called Let the Right One In. Starring Chloe Moretz (from this year's "Kick Ass") and Kodi Smit-McPhee, Let Me In is the story of lonely kid that befriends a strange girl that turns out to be a vampire. She is being taken care of by a caretaker that has a few mishaps in getting food for his vampire girl. The two kids embark on a growing friendship and the complications of adolescence. Throw in a lot of horrific scenes and you've got a nice little drama for your enjoyment.

After Let Me was the famous, or in this year's case - infamous, Trailer Park. Comic Con dedicates about an hour and half to trailers for upcoming movies. We saw trailers for movies that had already had panels in Hall H like Tron and Megamind as well as some new movies. The other movies included Zac Efron's "Charlie St. Coud" and Jack Black's "Gulliver's Travels" both of which got booed enormously! Studios bring movies to Comic Con to gauge how well their key audience will like them. 300 did it in 2006, Tron in 2008, and Kick Ass in 2009. Just because an audience likes a film, doesn't mean it will go on to be a box office success, but with Comic Con attendees approval many studios go forward with films (thus Tron: Legacy this December). That being said, the trailer park was a sad place for movies like Gulliver's Travels and Charlie St. Cloud which will probably not do so well. Movies came to die in the Trailer Park (hey, that sounds like a great title for another movie, what do you think?) this year.

Resident Evil: After Life, the fourth movie in the video game turned movie film series was the next panel for our enjoyment. Milla Jovovich (5th Element) and Ali Larter (HEROES, American Outlaws) return to their roles of this action film continuing the story of the video game series. This time the film takes on elements and characters from the Resident Evil 5 game. Our 2 heroines continue to fight the evil Umbrella Corporation and tons of the undead with the help of some friends. This time, the film comes to us in 3D with great effects including a great fight scene with The Executioner and a giant axe! A funny moment in the panel was when a fan got Milla (yes, we're on a first name basis!) to speak a line from her 5th Element days, "Lilu Dallas, Multi-pass." The entire room exploded in laughter. It was nice to see her giving back to the fans.

History was made Saturday afternoon. For the first time in 41 years, violence broke out at Comic Con. No, two geeks dressed up as Spiderman and Superman weren't duking it out for the USC title (Ultimate Superhero Championship). There was a serious fight between two guys in Hall H (a couple sections over from me) over saving seats that ended with one of the dude's being stabbed near his eye. I'm sure most of you already read about this (and probably saw the youtube videos of the fight). It ended up being broken up once the private security company finally showed up and some fellow Con people held the perpetrator down. The victim was taken out on a stretcher, blood all over his new Harry Potter shirt, and the other guy was taken out in cuffs once the police arrived (to many boos). Sessions were delayed an hour (while they replayed the now-oh-so-lame Trailer Park) and that wasn't good because our next guest was making his very first appearance at Comic Con ever (and he's a major Sci Fi actor!).
